Amani Homeownership Opportunities
(Upcoming New Construction Plans in the Amani Neighborhood)

WELCOME!!
We’re thrilled to share exciting news about the Amani Homeownership Initiative! The goal of this project is to help our community thrive by making homeownership accessible and creating wonderful, shared spaces for everyone. Right now, we have 119 aspiring homeowners in Amani, but only 14 have found affordable homes in our neighborhood. We want to change that!

Here’s What We’re Planning:
-
60 New Entry-Level Homes: By 2028, we’ll be building around 60 affordable homes on vacant lots right here in Amani. These homes will be designed with your input and priced to ensure they’re affordable aiming to keep monthly costs at or below what residents currently pay in rent.
-
Community Spaces: We're also excited to create 2 community spaces for everyone to enjoy and use. These spaces will be maintained by residents, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in our neighborhood.
-
Support for Existing Homeowners: We know that taking care of our current homeowners is just as important. We’ll be helping 20 existing homeowners who need critical repairs, ensuring that everyone can feel comfortable and secure in their homes.

Why Is This Important?
Our community deserves to thrive, and housing is a vital part of that journey. The Amani Homeownership Initiative aims to enhance the quality of life in our neighborhood while making sure that it remains a welcoming and affordable place for everyone. Plus, homes will be deed restricted to maintain affordability and prevent any displacement of current residents. And the best part? You’ll have a say in how these homes are designed, priced, and built!

Let’s Talk About the Tax Incremental District (TID)
Before we can break ground, we need the City of Milwaukee Common Council to approve the creation of a Tax Increment District (TID). This will help fund the project and ensure we can get things moving. About 90% of the proposed TID is in Alderman Jackson’s district, with the remainder in Alderman Stamper, Alderwoman Coggs’ district.

Who’s Behind the Initiative?
We are proud to work with Dominican Center, Amani United, Emem Group, Habitat for Humanity, and Milwaukee Community Crossroads, we’re united in our mission to create new Black and Latino homeowners in Amani over the next three years. Together, we'll build a brighter future for our community!
How You Can Get Involved
Your voice and ideas are crucial! We’ll be hosting meetings and updates to keep everyone informed and engaged. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming up:
-
Build Consensus: We’ll be reaching out to gather your thoughts and achieve neighborly support for our plans in 2026.
-
Design and Build: We’ll continue to work on finalizing the TID and getting the support of your locally elected officials.
-
Construction Begins: We aim to secure the funding and start building by Summer of 2026!
