During the CDA Next GEN Home Bus Tour, attendees had the opportunity to walk through the Washington Park neighborhood and visit one of the four newly constructed homes being developed specifically for Early Childhood Education (ECE) Educators by Rooted & Rising.

A presentation was given by William (Bill) Schmitt, Executive Director of Rooted & Rising, and Kayla Davis, Director of Early Childhood Education of Rooted & Rising. ​The visit was made even more meaningful by Ex Fabula storyteller Lila Weatherall, who shared a personal story about her connection to both the Washington Park and Washington Heights neighborhoods.

About Rooted & Rising
William (Bill) Schmitt serves as the Executive Director of Rooted & Rising, an organization committed to expanding access to affordable housing and providing property management services to Milwaukee’s most vulnerable families. Rooted & Rising has become one of the few organizations in the city offering permanent, supportive housing for families transitioning out of homelessness.
As an implementation partner of the Community Development Alliance, Rooted & Rising is building 4 homes in Washington Park for Early Childhood Education (ECE) Educators. Through this project, Rooted & Rising are working to ensure that ECE educators not only have access to safe and stable housing, but also the opportunity to continue doing the critical work that keeps Milwaukee families strong.
Rooted & Rising is using the home model designed by VIA CDC.
